Surfing, Wineries and Working Holidays - Margaret River, Western Australia

Lush green trees, so dense amongst picturesque rolling hills, yet only minutes away from pristine beaches... Margaret River is truly breathtaking...

A weekend in Margaret River never seems long enough. Surrounded by tall trees, household name wineries and close enough to the ocean that you can almost feel the salt in the air. The township is a mix of tree change greenies, surf addicts and gourmands.

Margaret River is Australia's next big thing in wine regions, tucked inconspicuously within an isolated fist of land that juts into the Indian Ocean. Located just three hours south of Perth, it shows on the map as a tiny dot at the bottom of Australia's largest, least populated state, Western Australia.

Margaret River is the most isolated wine growing area on the planet. This is where some of the world's finest Shiraz is produced, as well as excellent Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

With the cool frost free winters, good soils that hold moisture, low summer rainfall and a long, slow ripening period, the climate around Margaret River is perfect for wine growing. Wine lovers will be in their element with the huge range of distinctive premium wines in the region. As Margaret River is the prime wine growing region of WA, there are around 90 wineries that will let you sample their produce. Over 15 percent of the country's premium wine is produced in Margaret River.
