Fun Things To Do In Venice

Venice is the most romantic of all Italian tourist locations. The food is great with seafood being an integral part of the Venetian cuisine. Other important ingredients are rice and polenta and you can get the famous cuttlefish recipes and risottos. The cicchetti are famous snacks which can be eaten as appetizers.

You can take your time as you wander through the streets and canals of Venice and see its various attractions and museums. The San Marco Square is the main square of Venice and has lovely shops and elegant sidewalk cafes. You can enjoy the picturesque beauty of Venice with live background music.

The Saint Mark's Basilica is an exquisite church which was sanctified in 832 AD and blends the unique Eastern and Western forms of architecture.

Doge's Palace or the Palazzo Ducale is worth a good visit being one of the grandest buildings in Venice. The Bridge of Sighs unites the palace to its prisons and this architecture was the judicial and political center of Venice at that time in history. The Rialto Bridge crosses the Grand Canal and is more than four hundred years old. The Rialto market nearby has small food shops and is incredibly lively.

An art museum with the finest Italian art is the Galleria del'Accademia and houses two dozen rooms and three buildings of historic value.

The specialty of Venice is glass that comes from the island of Murano. Marbled paper and superb lace are other famous manufactures of Venice. Other souvenirs are the carnival masks and Venetian scenes in watercolor.

Among the many cities where the carnival is celebrated, Venice offers some of most fun traditional festivals. The Carnival of Venice attracts visitors from all over and is a colorful and wonderful event. This carnival has been a tradition of Venice for hundreds of years!

The carnival takes place once Easter dates are confirmed during the period known as Lent. In traditional meaning this is a time when rich foods were left aside and all other celebrations were halted. But then people started to eat and have fun during the time before LENT. This gave birth to the carnival and in the 1200s the mask wearing routine took place.

These masks are not only fun to wear at the carnival; they are also a lovely souvenir for visitors to Venice.

The costumes and the lavish masks are the show stoppers at the carnival. The carnival website can give you more information on dates and itineraries which are released near the carnival date.
